How can I clean old wax out of a candle holder?

I once learned of a trick (that many may know) to put the holder in the freezer, and the remaining pool of wax would pop right out. It works wonders! However, after doing that several times, the wax buildup around the other parts of the holder tends to build up and doesn't quite freeze since there isn't much of it. It is waxy and messy; when I try to clean it it just spreads it around. What is the easiest way to clean up the remaining wax? I have tried soap and water with a sponge, with not much luck. It removes some of it, but there must be another trick? Any ideas?

I work for Yankee Candle and often suggest the following method(s):At home I will either run hot or near boiling water until the leftover wax disappears,or use an old pot that contains heated water to soak off excess wax.Dont use said pot for food use!
