Bronze Recessed

Finishing rough cast bronze?
Does anyone know how exactly to smooth and polish rough cast bronze. I recently bought a router plane kit from St. John's Bay tools and it is pretty rough. I was going to use a sheet of sand paper to flatten the bottom and a drum and disc sander to smooth the outsides. The top is recessed and there is also lettering that I can't get to with sand paper. Use a wire wheel? What do you recommend. Also, do I need to be aware of removing any kind of tempering?
Sounds like you're on the right track, after you've gotten everything smooth with the sanding go on to polishing with a buffing wheel and compounds. For the tight areas use a dremel type tool or a die grinder. As far as the temper I don't think you will get it hot enough to be concerned with that. You would have to get it hot enough to be a dull cherry red to affect it .
